Greenies, the popular dog treat to help prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar, have recently come under investigation by the FDA. The treats, although very safe for most dogs, pose a significant risk to dogs that gulp their food or swallow without chewing properly. The treat then congeals into a large mass that can become trapped in the stomach or small intestine requiring surgical removal. Owners are urged to feed the treats responsibly.
